Campsites with animals
Our petting farm is a real hit with families that visit Herding Hill Farm, with a variety of animals to discover. Meet our friendly alpacas Mamba, Knight and Minstrel who enjoy being fed by our guests. You can also meet our loving donkey Coco who absolutely loves the attention he receives from our guests when camping with farm animals. You can set your watch on feeding time! We also have two goats, Aaron and Alvin, Robin the Shetland Pony and Chilli and Ginger, our two Kunekune piglets! You may also get the opportunity to collect eggs from our happy hens and enjoy cuddles with our rabbits and guinea pigs.
Playground
Occupy your children with endless hours of
fun with our Roman fort outdoor adventure playground. Complete with slides and
climbing nets, our playground encourages imaginative play as well as burning
off children’s extra energy! A safe, enclosed play area equipped with play bark
for a soft landing for those little tumbles. Perfect for family campsites near me.

Now this is one activity we know all the
family will love. Herding Hill Farm has a barbecue hut for hire directly on site
where you can enjoy a family BBQ, whatever the weather! Our BBQ hut accommodates
up to 20 guests around an open fire with grill. Private hire for 3 hours costs
just £40 which includes charcoal supply and the use of cooking utensils. Please
note you are required to bring your own food, plates, bowls, cutlery and
cups/glasses. We also offer gas or charcoal BBQ hire if you'd prefer to cook from the comfort of your own pitch or Wigwam cabin.

Stargazing
Explore the wonders of the night’s sky with
stargazing in Northumberland. A great activity to make learning about the
astronomy extra fun! We are in the perfect spot for stargazing, either at the
Dark Sky Discovery Site or from the comfort of your hot tub in a Wigwam cabin
or lodge. The best time for stargazing is during the autumn and winter months
on a clear night.

Historical landmarks
For those budding historians, we’d
definitely recommend exploring Birdoswald Roman Fort where you can explore the ruins of the front, a turret and
milecastle. Throughout summer, they usually hold trails for your children to
explore the Roman Fort and learn about the history behind it whilst they
complete their quest – a great way to combine learning and play.
You cannot visit Herding Hill Farm without
taking a walk along Hadrian’s Wall
as we’re located in the best position for the most complete part of the wall. The
Hadrian’s Wall World Heritage Site stretches over 100 miles of Northern England
so there is plenty to discover including museums and Roman ruins, full of
history just waiting to be explored.
Outdoor adventure
Our child friendly accommodation in
Northumberland provides great activities both on site and in surrounding areas.
If you’re looking for a day of outdoor adventure when staying at a campsite near me, then we’d highly recommend
paying Go Ape in Matfen a
visit with the round trip taking just over 1 hour in a car. You can swing
through the trees and fly down zip wires whilst enjoying stunning scenery in
Northumberland. Plus, its not just for kids, this is an activity to enjoy with
all the family. There is also a range of activities at All Out Adventures near Slaley including quad biking, segway safari, axe and knife throwing and archery.
The Haltwhistle Leisure Centre
provides another great day out, with 3 outdoor heated pools, adventure play
area and picnic area. Plus, entry fee allows unlimited all-day use of all the
facilities so you can really make a day of it.
If water sports are your thing then we’d
highly recommend Talkin Adventures at Talking Tarn in Brampton which will take you just
over 20 minutes to get to by car. It offers boat hire, kayaking, paddle
boarding, canoeing and much more.
