Environmental Policy Statement
Herding Hill Farm is committed to promoting sustainable tourism and protecting and enhancing our natural environment to minimise our impact on the environment, wildlife and local communities. We contribute to local conservation charities and are a member of the David Bellamy Pledge for Nature scheme.
We seek to minimise our impact on the environment in the following ways:
- Improving existing habitats for wildlife, including bees, insects and birds
- Minimising our waste and energy consumption wherever possible
- Ensuring that we preserve our status as a Dark Sky Friendly Site to minimise light pollution
- Maintaining our facilities to the highest of standards and ensuring old equipment is replaced with energy efficient alternatives
- Promoting the reduction and reuse of materials and encouraging our guests to recycle
- Removing the use of single use packaging or plastics and encouraging our customers to use our drinking water points
- Using eco-friendly materials and cleaning products
- Minimising our use of paper by emailing everything to our guests in advance and having hand dryers and not hand towels in our amenity block
- Promoting the benefits of car-free travel for guests visiting our site including public transport and sustainable options such as walking or cycling
- Encouraging guests to learn more about the natural environment during their stay
- Promoting the sale of local produce in our shop, promoting local businesses and attractions on our website and partnering with local contractors wherever possible
- Being good neighbours and having a positive impact on the local community
