Outdoors at Herding Hill

Dogs are welcome

A romantic getaway in the countryside isn’t complete without your four-legged companion and you’ll be pleased to know we’re a relaxed dog-friendly campsite! Plus, there are endless dog walks in the local area so you and your dog won’t run out of things to do.

The perfect camping experience

There’s nothing better than sitting down with a glass of wine after the tent is up, the van is sorted and the beds made. If the UK is graced with glorious weather, then why not sit outdoors and enjoy the sunshine and look forward to the rest of your romantic break. However, if the weather isn’t kind, you can have just as good a time by snuggling up when the rain is beating down with a good book, a pack of cards or plenty of board games.

Alcohol

A sizzling BBQ and a roaring fire are always two good ingredients for camping and at Herding Hill Farm we can offer you both from the comfort of your own pitch! You’ll just have to bring the food along. Oh, and don’t forget the marshmallows for toasting on the fire pit! If you don’t fancy cooking why not order one of our home-cooked pizzas on a Friday night, delivered direct to your pitch or Wigwam® cabin. Whether you sit and catch up on what’s been happening that day, plan your next romantic short break or play cards you can be sure the evening will pass by in a flash.

We are a Dark Sky Friendly Park and proud to be one of the best stargazing spots in the UK! So, hopefully one of your evenings with us will be clear and you can enjoy the stars whilst relaxing with a glass of wine together. We have stargazing kits for hire if you want to take more than a passing interest, just ask at Reception. It doesn’t get much better than stargazing for the perfect romantic activity!

Toasting marshmellows

And if you are lucky enough to be in a Running Water Wigwam® with hot tub then what could be better than lying in warm water together watching the clear night skies? You might even see a shooting star.

Luxury amenities building

Our spotless five-star amenity block offers a touch of luxury not normally seen when camping, with under-floor heating, plentiful hot water, baths and even a unisex sauna. It’s open every evening for general use but why not book a private session for exclusive use? At the very least it might help you to warm up!

Our Running Water Wigwam® cabins have their own toilet facilities if you don’t fancy venturing too far.

Get a good night's sleep

Our site is family friendly and we operate a no-noise after 10.30 policy so if late nights are your thing probably best to pick a different site. The advantage of this though is everyone gets a great night’s sleep (we are in the middle of nowhere) and you can then enjoy the day ahead in your romantic getaway in the North East.

Romantic walks & pub pit stops

Accompany your romantic couples retreat in Northumberland with a long walk and why not enjoy a pint or two along the way. Herding Hill Farm is just 1 mile from Cawfields Quarry at Hadrian’s Wall and if you go East to Steel Rigg, a 4-mile walk (one way) you’ve got the Twice Brewed Inn which brews its own beer and does excellent food and welcomes dogs. There’s also a huge beer garden if the weather is kind.

Explore the area

The Sill National Landscape Discovery Centre doesn’t allow dogs but has a great gift shop and excellent café, as well as changing exhibitions. If you are too tired to walk back, you could catch the AD122 bus which will drop you right outside the entrance to Herding Hill Farm (Easter to October only). The Milecastle Inn is a walking distance from the campsite and whilst it doesn’t allow dogs inside it has a large beer garden.

Our Hadrian’s Wall Campsite means we are ideally located just 1 mile from the famous Northumberland landmark. Hadrian’s Wall has a wealth of visitor attractions and historic sites to explore, as well as an abundance of great walks without venturing too far afield.

Please note some amenities and facilities may be restricted due to Covid-19, enquire directly on 01434 320175 to find out more or check out our website www.herdinghillfarm.co.uk.
