Vindolanda Roman Fort

Only 3 miles from Herding Hill Farm, Vindolanda is one of Europe's most important Roman archaeological sites and comprises nine forts built on top of each other. There are regular archaeological digs on site and the museum provides a magnificent display of the many stunning objects found during excavations including the Vindolanda writing tablets which recorded the daily life of the people who used to live at the fort.
